Office 5S

All business enterprises typically have administrative tasks.  Often we are so focused on other core aspects that we neglect the functionality of our offices.  Yet, the administrative functions are often the first contact our customers have with our organizations.  Additionally, these office functions can play a huge role in collapsing order to cash time and can improve both product and supply delivery times.  Improved office functionality is achieved quickly using 5S methods.  Five S is the name of a workplace organization method used to manage the work space, eliminate clutter to improve efficiencies, and eliminate wasted effort to expedite work flow.  Customers and suppliers form an opinion about your company based on their impressions of your office environment, based both on appearance and functionality.  The 5S methodology for offices use techniques to reduce clutter and improve flow using a collaborative process for not only training but involving employees.  The employees' ideas, suggestions and team decisions gained throughout the 5S activities drive the process to improved conditions and more customer satisfaction, not only from external customers, but internal customer as well.  The 5S methodology is relatively easy to implement and it pays a high dividend relative to effort invested.  Additionally, it is frequently the first step to incorporating other Lean functions into our office functions such as Lean in the office.
